Chanel S/S 13
Once again, Karl Lagerfeld has hit the ball out of the park
with the most recent Chanel (or ‘Channel’, which I read worryingly too often on
many a blog) Paris fashion show. Slick monochrome looks with splashes of saccharine
pastel colours and a smattering of trademark tweed, the line draws on many
classic looks of the past. I think if Madame Coco was alive today, this would
be exactly how she’d dress. Part Parisian chic, part avant-garde, the refined
column dresses and box jackets are perfectly offset by oversized pearl
necklaces and giant wide brimmed Perspex hats (just like James Bond nemesis Oddjob, who threw a bowler hat with a circular
blade hidden in the rim, the Chanel creation may cause more injuries than
compliments).
Genuine Chanel pieces radiate the wearer’s sense of style,
understanding of luxury and undeniable wealth, as most pieces, be it hot off
the catwalk or from a vintage era, cost thousands to own. That is why your
Average Joe must look on in lust whenever one passes an item with the linked C’s
smugly stamped across it.
However, fashion is starting to look kindly upon those who
do not have an unlimited bank balance. The website classysale.com is selling
vintage Chanel jewellery at wholesale prices. Oh my, the prices are bloody
good. And they ship worldwide for free! Suddenly emulating Coco seems actually within
our grasp. Surely there must be a catch? Ah, you do have to by a minimum of
three items at one go. Well, they do have to make a profit after all. Still, with
prices starting at $95, this is too good an offer to pass up. See my top picks
below (figuerine necklace - $570; Chanel Paris circular black earrings - $130; cuff bracelet with green stone - $500; large heart earrings - awaiting stock):
